Many consider Paris Is Burning to be an invaluable documentary of the end of the "Golden Age" of New York City drag balls, as well as a thoughtful exploration of race, class, and gender in America."

F to eMbody is a multi-media spoken-word and hip-hop performance.

Harvey Katz (aka Athens Boys Choir) performs gender-deviant, multi-media, spoken-word/homo-hop. Katastrophe (aka Rocco Kayiatos) is a San Francisco-based rapper and producer and uses his poetic grasp of language to weave dense tales of lives lived outside the mainstreams of education, gender, and culture. He was crowned Producer of the Year by Out Music Awards for his debut album and been featured in the documentary films Poetic License and Pick up the Mic. He spent 12 weeks on LOGO's top ten click list and his music was featured on an episode of the L Word.

He's shared the stage with Le Tigre, Gossip, Saul Williams, Bitch, Chicks on Speed, Michael Franti, Dead Prez, John Cameron Mitchell, Kiki and Herb, and Amy Ray.

February 20: YaliniDream!

YaliniDream incorporates her unique blend of spoken word poetry, song, theater, and dance in a performance that speaks to the survival of spirit. This vigorous performance journeys thru many spaces from the humorous conflict of a young girl's dilemma between sexy thoughts and bedtime prayers to a mother coming to terms with her daughter's sexuality & community's contradictions to the heart wrenching stories of the ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka.

YaliniDream travels this terrain through a hybrid form of dance that draws upon contemporary and classical South Asian forms as well as US Urban dance forms such as Hip Hop and Experimental House. YaliniDream's work speaks to the heart, conjures the spirit, and incites the intellect through her performance, "Wounds Unkissed."

"Wounds Unkissed" - 1 hour performance
Discussion - 1 hour of round-table discussion on the performance, identities as a Queer Person of Color (QPOC), QPOC community-building & empowerment through activism, and working within the LGBT community at large
Solo Performance Art Workshop - 1 hour

YaliniDream uses her perspective as a Brooklyn-based Queer Woman of Sri Lankan Tamil descent to open a wide range of conversations, that include (but are not limited to) the intersection of identities, desire and spirituality, and the legacy of war. These conversations address prevalent issues facing Asian American, Immigrant, LGBTQ, People of Color, South Asian American & Women of Color communities.

MOSAIC is sponsored by Haven. Haven is funded in part by the Dean of
Students Office of Student Support and by the SAFC.

This event is graciously co-sponsored by the following Program Houses: Holland International Living Center (HILC), Risley Residential College, Just About Music (JAM), Multicultural Living Learning Unit (McLLU), and Ujamaa Residential College.
